Thunder Tea Rice
Decided to try this exotic dish at Suntec Convention Centre. Had to push through throngs of people to go to the food court, which does not look like the typical Kopitiam. Managed to grab two seats for my Ma and I and went to see what it has to offer.
Bored with the usual choices of chicken rice and hokkien mee, which are ubiquitous in every Kopitiam in Singapore, I decided to try some Hakka dish--Thunder Tea Rice set.
Slightly more expensive than normal dishes, it came with a bowl of brown rice filled with an assortment of vegetables, so much so that I can't even see the rice. I had ordered the set meal which included a plate of fried beancurd and omelette, together with a bowl of soup which is green.
Sampled the bowl of greenish soup, which tasted unique. However, I find it quite sickening after a while, so I quickly drank all of it while my mother ordered the exact same organic dish as me. Can't imagine my stomach can take all the green algae in the bowl (it looks like a pond that has undergone heavy eutrophication.) Just like the soup, the rice tasted quite crunchy with the vegetables, however it gets plain as time passes by. It's a good thing I ordered the omelette and fried beancurd; they helped to musk the taste of vegetables in my mouth all the time.
Apparently, this ancient dish had a myriad of benefits, one of which is to detoxify the body. It is also said to help win battles in ancient China (through the pamphlet I was reading when queuing up). If the warriors were all like me, then that side would have been doomed. Didn't feel any reinvigoration of spirit, instead my jaws felt tired after chewing for what seemed like eternity. My mother seemed to enjoy the meal though.
Had to clear my mouth with a good drink of Teh, which also had a heavenly cost of $1.50.
